A Legacy of Deliberate, Systems-Driven Court Solutions

Total Tennis has been serving courts and athletic facilities since 1985. Founded by club manager and tennis professional Jim Lathrop, the company began by addressing recurring problems in court performance and care — and built a reputation for thoughtful solutions, technical clarity, and accountability.

Today, Total Tennis continues that legacy, working with facility owners, clubs, schools, and municipalities throughout the Midwest on projects that range from new construction and surface reconditioning to court maintenance programs and facility enhancements.

Who We Are

We are specialists in athletic court environments — focusing on tennis, pickleball, and clay courts — and the systems that support them. Rather than being a general contractor who happens to “do courts,” we are court-centric problem solvers. This focus allows us to deliver consistent results across varying project types and scales.

Our team combines real-world experience with documented processes to ensure:

  • Honest evaluations
  • Clearly defined scopes of work
  • Quality materials and installation
  • Long-term performance, not short-term fixes
Who We Are

Our Journey

Total Tennis started as a response to a real need: courts that were poorly maintained, improperly constructed, or treated as an afterthought. Jim saw how improperly planned work led to premature failures, inconsistent playability, and frustrated owners. In 1985, he decided to do it differently — and Total Tennis was born.

Over nearly four decades, we have:

  • Built systems that work regardless of staffing changes
  • Evolved from a small family business into a trusted regional partner
  • Completed hundreds of court projects across Ohio and the Midwest
  • Integrated lessons from every project into continuous improvement

Our Core Values

Our work is grounded in a few simple principles that guide every engagement:

Integrity

We always act in the customer’s best interest, treating every client with the respect we would expect for ourselves.

Quality

We specify and install materials that perform — chosen for durability, compatibility, and long-term performance.

Continuous Improvement

We don’t settle for “how things have always been done.” We analyze outcomes and refine processes so our solutions get better over time.

How We Think About Court Projects

How We Think About Court Projects

We believe:

  • Not every court needs full reconstruction. Many performance issues are better solved with targeted reconditioning or maintenance planning.
  • Systems matter. From drainage and base performance to surface systems and accessories, we look at each court as a set of interconnected decisions.
  • Coordination reduces risk. Facilities are complex, and the place where many projects fall short is a lack of thoughtful coordination across trades and disciplines.

This mindset keeps our projects predictable, transparent, and focused on real outcomes.

Who We Serve

We partner with a range of owners and operators, including:

  • Country clubs and racquet clubs
  • Private owners and homeowner associations
  • Schools and universities
  • Municipalities and park systems
  • Recreation and sports facilities

Whether it’s a single court or a multi-facility project, we tailor our approach to each owner’s goals.

Why It Matters

Decades in service have taught us one thing: experience alone does not guarantee success. Systems do. Our documented processes — from evaluation through execution and maintenance planning — ensure that quality isn’t dependent on who’s on site today, but on the way we approach every project.
